In 2006, NWCGE members Rick Weis and John Hancock were inspired to create a videogame show in the Portland area. After soliciting the participation of several local videogame vendors in Portland, a venue was decided upon in nearby Vancouver, WA. With the technical support and encouragement of NWCGE members Lee Krueger and Hans Reutter, Rick and John created NWCGE Vancouver 2K6: offically the first classic video game expo held in the Portland Area.
In September 2006 at the Quality Inn in Vancouver, the first Portland area show attracted over 200 attendees and several independent videogame vendors. In attendance were Toby Wickwire, Chuck Van Pelt and Jon Rose who would go on in subsequent years to help organize the event.
