Annual Tetris World Championships


PRGE is pleased to host the annual Classic Tetris World Championships! Supporting assistance provided by:


The tournament will take place in Rooms D137-D140 in on both days of the Expo. It's open to the public and a modest entry fee (in addition to your paid Expo admission) allows you to make as many qualifying attempts as you can. Come try your hand against many of the cast of the award-winning video game documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters, including Twin Galaxies record holders Harry Hong and Jonas Neubauer. Competitors travel to Portland from all over the world for this event!

New for 2019:

  • The Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) has moved from the main show floor to rooms D137-D140 just outside the main doors to Halls D & E.
  • CTWC has added an additional day! On Friday they will host mini-tournaments on 4 different games (see below) to get you warmed up for the big event.
  • CTWC will be streaming more of the event than ever. Check out their Twitch channel for information as it gets closer to the Expo.


CTWC Tournament Schedule (All events take place in rooms D137-D140):


Friday

  • Tournament registration begins at 2:00 PM
  • Main Stage:
    • 3:00 PM: Speedrun - 16 openings
    • 4:00 PM: Dr. Mario - 16 openings
  • Side Stage:
    • 3:00 PM: Mindmeld - 8 teams, level 18, best 2 of 3 throughout bracket
    • 5:00 PM: Invisible Tetris - 8 spots, level 15, best 2 of 3 throughout bracket


Saturday

  • 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM - NES Qualifying
  • 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM - NES “Round Zero” seeds 17-48 fight to make the bracket of 32 on Sunday.


Sunday

  • Round 1 - 10:30 AM to 12:00PM (16 matches, Best-of-3)
  • Round 2 - 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM (8 matches, Best-of-3)
  • Break – 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM
  • Opening ceremony and player introductions - 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM
  • Round 3 - 2:00PM to 3:30PM (4 matches, Best-of-5, plus post-game interviews)
  • Round 4 - 3:30PM to 4:55 PM (2 matches, Best-of-5, plus post-game interviews)
  • Round 5 – 5:00PM to 5:40pm
  • NES Award Presentation – 5:40PM to 5:50PM

Please note: Extra time has been budgeted for all rounds of Sunday’s tourney. If it's ahead of schedule in the morning, the midday break will be longer to maintain the 2:00 PM start time for the top 8. Final Match will be at 5:00 PM, even if rounds 3 & 4 are completed ahead of schedule.
